Gregg played in the Majors as a relief pitcher from 1988-2001. Best known for his years as a dominate closer for the Baltimore Orioles, Olson would blow people away with his 90-plus fastball and a curveball so good, it had its own name: "Uncle Charlie." He won the American League Rookie of the year award in 1989 with a rookie record 27 saves with a 1.69 era in only 85 innings of work. He was to first reliever to win the award.
He went on to make the All-Star team the following year as he set the Orioles record for saves with 37. He followed up that campaign with 31 and 36 saves the next two years. He remains the Orioles saves leader to this day with 160. Though Injuries hampered the next few years of his career, he managed to find success again with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
On March 19, 2008, Olson was elected to the Orioles Hall of Fame. He was inducted during the pre-game ceremony before the Orioles vs Rangers game at Orioles Park at Camden Yards on August 9, 2008. He is currently a scout for the San Diego Padres.
