Chris & Bryan grew up playing soccer. They now produce the incredible looking Corpus Training Balls. These strange and unpredictable bounces are just fun, but have real training applications. They grace practice pitches of professional, amateur and youth leagues all over the world.
Corpus Training came about when brothers -in-law Christian Tryon and Bryan Pell were vacationing together in Austria. Chris is half Austrian and has spent summers there since he was a kid. While there, they got into a conversation with Chris's friend Mario Sinnhofer, an artist.
In art school at the time, Mario invited Chris and Bryan to a show at his school to see his latest project. The project required Mario to take an everyday thing and make it abstract. Mario wanted to work with something leather, because growing up his father was well known maker of laderhosen, a traditional garment in Austria. So, Mario decided to use a soccer ball.
He chose 4 shapes for the show: a heart, a pyramid, a "rugby ball," and a pill.
Bryan and Chris both played soccer in high school, with Bryan playing in college as well. So naturally, they wanted to see what kicking these funny shaped soccer balls was like. So after the show ran it's course, all three of them took the balls off display and found a place to play.
Not surprisingly, they had a tough time. The balls bounced in all sorts of odd ways, keeping them on their toes and forcing them to concentrate. It clicked while they chased the weirdly shaped balls all over the place that they had real training potential. They decided that they should see if other people would see the value, too, and started selling them in the US and Europe.
Now, Corpus Training Balls, and their European counter part, Rasenreich, grace the practice pitches of professional, amateur and youth leagues all over the world. What started out as a fun art project has helped thousands of players improve their coordination, concentration and reaction time.
